About

木漏れ日

Pronounced as komorebi, this combination of four characters captures the essence of a phenomenon which cannot be easily expressed in English. A translation might be ‘sunlight shining through the trees’, but even this phrase is just that, a translation.

Komorebi is one of my favorite Japanese words, amongst other beautiful words like samidare, meaning ‘early summer rain’, or aki no koe, meaning ‘the sounds of autumn’ (wind in dry leaves, insects, etc. Literally ‘autumn’s voice’). I see those words as just an example of Japan’s fascination with nature and simplicity. It are one of the things that amazes me about Japan. Because of my fascination about Japan and all of its aspects, I’ve decided to start this blog. I think it is fun to share my experiences with the world and I would be glad if it appears to be useful for others. And hey, in secret, maybe I’m also just writing about things to help me remember them. 😉

So you can expect to find various posts about Japan here, such as my adventurous travel experiences, delicious discovered food and stunning traditional and modern culture.

Living in Holland (or better to say, the Netherlands, read here why), I also like to share similar topics about my country. Sometimes I just like to be the tourist in my own country, which is how I started to look with different eyes to things around me. And yes, of course there is more than only wooden shoes, cheese, drugs and tulips here! 😉

Another topic of my posts will be about tech things. Already from a young age I was interested in electronics and devices. As a kid, toys never survived long with me, soon I took it apart to find out how it worked 😀 Now my hobby became my job, working as a software developer with databases and embedded electronics. I’ll write sometimes about hacking, new technology or complex matters I’ve stumbled upon.

Last but not least, sometimes I’ll also just write some random stuff. Just because it is possible. 🙂

I hope you’ll enjoy your time reading my blog and feel free to leave a comment if you like! 🙂
